The annual presentation of the programme for FIMFA Lx – International Festival of Puppetry and Animated Forms, to commemorate World Puppetry Day, has already established itself as a tradition. This year is even more special: it is the 25th edition and the 25th anniversary of FIMFA, scheduled to take place between 8 May and 1 June, in various Lisbon venues.
FIMFA is an international multidisciplinary project, committed to promoting, disseminating and recognising the universe of animated forms. Each edition, it becomes a performative platform for puppetry arts, introducing renowned artists as well as young artists with innovative projects. This is a display of the best work produced currently in this artistic domain, complemented by several parallel activities. Every year, FIMFA confirms its place as one of the most important international gatherings for contemporary puppet theatre, establishing itself since 2001, both at home and abroad, as an innovative and alternative programming space. It presents contemporary forms of puppet theatre for an adult audience, while maintaining its connection with the most traditional versions. Designed from a perspective of artistic intersection, FIMFA presents creations that include a wide range of techniques (shadows, objects, direct manipulation, visual theatre, etc.) and aesthetic proposals, drawing connections between puppetry and other art forms.
